Adhiṭṭhāna is a Pāli word meaning determination or resolute commitment. Pāli is a Middle Indo-Aryan language from India, widely studied as the sacred language of Theravāda Buddhism and as the language of the Tipiṭaka, the canonical collection of Theravāda Buddhist texts.
Adhiṭṭhāna refers to strong determination—the resolve to remain committed even when the mind or body would rather stop, move or turn away.
The idea is closely associated with the determination required on the path of meditation: to sit, remain still, observe, and continue despite discomfort or distraction. It is not stubbornness for its own sake. It is a deliberate commitment to something that matters.
It represents the belief that meaningful progress begins with clarity—but is sustained by determination.

Roshan has over 20 years of experience in institutional asset management and investment consulting, including roles with J.P. Morgan, State Street Global Advisors, Manulife Investment Management and Mercer.
Roshan is a CFA charterholder and holds an MBA from Marshall University and a BSc from Bangalore University. He lives with his family in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
